Police Tactical Firearms

Academic Credit | Registration | Reporting Instructions | Transcripts

Police firearms skill levels have declined nationwide over the past several years. Agencies across the nation are reporting increased numbers of incidents in which officers are injured or killed as a result of accidental shootings. The Police Tactical Firearms course will develop and/or improve requisite skills with the sidearm and shoulder-mounted firearms to include shotguns and carbines.

The focus of the course will be to improve basic gun handling and marksmanship skills and then to develop confrontational shooting skills. Officers completing this course have documented significant increases in skill levels and as a by-product confidence in their ability to use their weapons if required.

If an agency has officers who have a demonstrated need for improvement in these vital life skills, this is the course for them. This is an excellent course for Firearms Instructors to attend every three to five years to update knowledge and skills that can be transferred to others through in-service training.

Topics covered in this course include:

  • Mindset: The Ultimate Weapon
  • Deadly Force and Civil Liability
  • Marksmanship (basic and combat)
  • Combat Gun Handling Skills
  • Combat Shooting Simulations
  • Low Light Shooting Tactics
  • Cover Utilization
  • Skill Assessment and Qualification
